WhatsApp is limiting all its members to forwarding any single message up to five times in an effort to tackle the spread of information on the platform. Previously messages could be forwarded 20 times.
The Facebook-owned business had already
introduced the restrictions in India six months ago as a response to a number of mob lynchings blamed on fake reports spread via the app.
The restriction comes at a time WhatsApp and Facebook's other services are under scrutiny for their role in
the spread of propaganda and supposed 'fake news' which seems to mostly be a trumped up claim designed to justify censorship.
